Our Story

What Tim Remembers

and the story begins... Sam and a couple of co-workers at the University of Utah used to have a saying, "Short story-long". Kind of the opposite of long story-short-basically taking a short story and dragging it into a whole ordeal. So to make a long story-short, Sam and I met while working at Sportsman's Warehouse in October 2005, yada yada yada, we are getting married in June 2011. That's it!

Okay, so the five years in between right... There is more to this short story--so lets make it a short story-long and hear what Sam has to say about how it all started...

I was a freshman in college at the University of Utah - going to school full-time and working part-time at Sportsman's. Life was good. Then some new guy started at Sportsman's. He was cute and pretty funny too. I tried to find excuses to call him up to the front of the store, but he spent more time finding reasons to come up. We talked a lot at work - we goofed off, laughed, and got along really well. I had a crush on this guy, and then I met Tim - JUST KIDDING - the guy was Tim! Who would have thought I'd find my other half at Sportsman's Warehouse, right Tim? story story story

What Tim Remembers

Ha Ha! Sam is quite the joker--obviously! So there I am at Sportsman's Warehouse, selling binoculars and knives because I can't get any design jobs. Single, 22, and not very careful when playing with knives at work, I tended to slice my hands up every now and again. The first time it happened I went to the front of the store to get a band-aid, and this eager young thing jumped on wrapping my bleeding finger. Meanwhile, Sam looked on in horror at the blood coming from the tiny scrape on my finger while... Okay I had to have some fun too. In reality, Sam wrapped my fingers each time I "happened" to visit (only did I find out years later that she hated blood!), and thus our story has a beginning. story

It's true, blood makes me queazy. Well, it just so happened that Tim told me he was moving to Indiana. Not wanting to see him go, we made plans to hang out a couple times and then he was off to Indiana. Life for me went on. I was still in school, still working at Sportsman's. I always thought I'd see Tim again, there was something special about that guy.

As Sam said, I was off to Indiana in the spring of 2006 for my first design job. We did meet up a couple of times before I left, but I wasn't sure when I would see Sam again as I didn't quite know when I would be back in Utah. After leaving I didn't really keep in touch--spending most of my time in Indiana chasing birds, and living in my own little bubble. In October, I came back to Utah for a week and may or may not have stopped by Sportsman's hoping to catch a glimpse of Sam. The trip back reminded me what I was missing in Utah, and I decided it was time to come back. In January of 2007 I was back in Salt Lake, and back at Sportsman's hoping to catch up with Sam by "having" to pick up some batteries for my flashlight... story

I still remember the day he came back into Sportsman's. I didn't know he was back in town, but I remember seeing some "familiar guy" looking at batteries and I was convinced it was Tim. I told the girls up front I would be back (they all knew I had a crush on him), and I ran up to Tim and he gave me a huge hug. We made plans to go out and I was excited. I had just ended things with a guy, so I wasn't exactly wanting to jump into anything. Tim came and picked me up and we went to Chile's for dinner. I was quiet (which is rare for me), but I was still having a good time. No plans in mind, we decided to go to a movie. They happened to be doing road construction on State Street and 9400 South, and there was a flashing, neon sign that said "No Left Hand Turns Onto 9400 S." That sign didn't stop Tim and he made a left hand turn and a lovely, female cop pulled him over. Needless to say - we missed our movie...
